Kicsit hosszú, de érdekes, meccs utáni nyilatkozatok...
Egyedül Marleau és Boyle játszott a Flames ellen, a többiek csak nézelődtek vagy aludtak.
ROB BLAKE: “We weren’t in the first period at all. We didn’t want the
puck. We knew that they were going to come out and play hard and we
weren’t up to that task at all.
“It might have looked a little different in the second because they
sat back, but we weren’t in that game at all.
“There’s challenges during the season and we didn’t respond one bit.”
DEVIN SETOGUCHI: “We didn’t get pucks deep, we didn’t get a forecheck
going and when you’re doing that, you know that they’re going to be
coming the other way. That’s what happened.”
DAN BOYLE: “I don’t know if there are answers, but that was the worst
period I’ve seen this team play all year. Just zero forecheck. Zero.
No puck control.
“That was embarrassing.
“There’s no excuse. We lost the game by three and you don’t need to
look any further than the first period. That was embarrassing.”
RYANE CLOWE: “We just weren’t ready to play. I don’t know how you’re
not ready, but we weren’t.
“I liked the lines. I thought it was adding good depth. It had nothing
to do with the lines when everyone is sleeping at the start. I don’t
think anybody was ready.
“Everyone in the world knew (that the Flames were going to come out
strong) if you read the papers. It was on four pages. We wanted to
come out and establish our game like the last time, but there was a
lot of watching.”
EVGENI NABOKOV, WHO STOPPED THE FIRST 11 SHOTS, THEN GAVE UP GOALS ON
FOUR OF THE NEXT SEVEN: “We’re all here together and I’ll take full
responsibility. I should give them a chance to keep it close and it
wasn’t close. It was 4-zip after one period and one minute.
“It’s not the first time I’m getting pulled. The good thing is it’s
always tomorrow and a practice day. We’ve got to get better as a team
and that’s the only way I can look at it. Coaches make decisions and I
have no problem with that.”
PATRICK MARLEAU:”You can’t even say it was a poor effort as there was
no effort out there. Tough to see, tough to be part of.
“We did all the talking, but we didn’t do the walking out there.
“We didn’t work tonight, so we have to work tomorrow.
(On Nabakov being pulled) “We didn’t give him the support he needed.
Turning the puck over, there were odd-man rushes against. . . .guys
getting their sticks open we would normally have.”
TODD MCLELLAN: “The preparation level didn’t meet the opponent’s
level. The commitment level and the execution level are nowhere near
what that team in red was prepared to do. Anytime you get behind a
team, 4-0, you’re not going to beat them irregardless of who they are.
“I’m very disappointed. Obviously we’ve got some things to address and
that’ll be our job as a staff the next couple days before we get to
Edmonton.
“There’s been some things creeping into our game, moreso on the road
than at home. The evolution of the team, the growth is stunted a
little bit. Our players have to look at each other and as a staff, we
have to take that responsibility to make sure they’re prepared in
Edmonton.
“Often when they see themselves in a video situation, they realize how
poorly they played.
(On pulling Nabokov) “He’s part of the team. There wasn’t a single
individual that competed well in the first 22 minutes of the game.
“They competed hard in every area of the game and they taught us a
lesson.
(On the poor showing the same night the lines were revamped) “If that
shuffling affects our team that much, then we’ve got bigger problems
than we can imagine. There’s been a number of teams throughout the
years that continually shuffle there lines around and continue to
win.”
(On the extra practice) “We added a practice into our trip. We were
going to take a day off to get to Edmonton, but we need to do some
work.”
